3DD - Day 4

RESEARCH.

After reflecting on my sketches, I conducted research into types of structures that resembled my structure or had similar qualities or functions.
The key areas I researched were:
Stilted structures: The Leadenhall Buidling, The Safe Esbjerg Rig, The Anti-Aircraft tower forts (part of the Thames Estuary defence network and  5 Aldermanbury Square.

I felt that 'The Safe Esbjerg Rig' and 'Anti-aircraft forts' almost resembled a floating structure, due to its nature of not having stable ground below the base of the structure. This conclusion led me into researching floating structures.

Floating structures: Seoul Floating Island (South Korea), Watervilla de Omval (Netherlands), The Citadel

Glass buildings: Musee du quai Branly

Following my research on stilted structures, I found myself at the exploring the realms of floating structures. From this research I created designs that integrated these forms, as well as using my first structures as the basis of the new designs.

Throughout the day I attempted to create a meticulous floating structure, although this came to a frustrating end as the overall structure ended up standing at a slight angle.

Coincidentally, as I discovered the idea of floating structures I found research that was being conducted into the relationship between water and architecture.

Viewing the perspectives of people in this industry has pushed me to carry on exploring the floating structure idea, and maybe create a multifunctional space.
