Day 15

Ideas, ideas, ideas.

Watching short films was very interesting because I was exposed to films that I wouldn’t of ever found or watched. The use of lighting and sharp shadows and high contrast of black and white is what really struck me in the film ‘fridge’, this is something I thought could be integrated in future photographs of mine.

Being shown the photo of ’things are queer’ really helped me understand making the storyboard of six images because I was able to have an insight into another person’s thought process. Getting to know ones thoughts helps understand different perspectives of the world that may all feed into one photograph.
At first I wasn’t too enticed by the idea of making a ‘story’ out of six images because I prefer taking one photograph or making a series but not a story. In the end I enjoyed creating scenarios for each scene and ended up gushing with ideas for many shoots but had to eventually decide on a story line, which was quite hard to hone down in the end, but with the help of the group we came to very good conclusions with our ideas.

We began with drawing characters, worlds and problems from our personal ephemera.

I felt that I couldn’t separate these things on the paper so I integrated them altogether.
The story began with an apple and small camera lens. The lens took the role of spying on the apple whilst the apple went about his daily life.

The lens was crossing the road and the apple runs over the lens, at this point the lens gets quite heated and angry and plots its revenge and so throughout the story he is constantly watching the apple.

‘Apple’ then refuels his car by taking in water, and lens is still stalking apple. This refueling process then revives ‘Apple’, who is technically controlling the car.

This power duplicates ‘Apple’ and therefore has double the power, which posed a huge issue towards the lens.

However the Lens’ power of being omniscient over came the strength of both apples. A standoff fight then occurred and the lens completely obliterated both ‘Apple’ duplicates.

The lens gained his revenge and gained victory at ‘Apples’’ funeral.

As a whole ‘the lens’ who began as a character that the audience should sympathise for, turned out to be a character that the audience disliked in the end, because people may have felt that the car accident was an accident and revenge was not needed, however the meaning of the story is open for interpretation.

Time management became an issue towards the end because we spent too long at the water fountain location, when trying to get the shot we wanted. This caused us to not put as much thought into the shoots after this. From this I learnt that keeping a time frame for each individual shoot was key, this is something that I shall work with for future tasks.
